Citizen 457
Performing at La Mama as part of the Explorations Program
13 - 14 - 15 December
Citizen 457 is an improvised dance theatre response to the legislation in our country regarding emigration, refugees and citizenship. In Helvetica will draw from the experiences of the performers and their struggles with national pride, visa applications, and ineffectual compassion.
Citizen 457 explores what it means to belong. To belong to Australia. To be a citizen.
Why do I struggle with National Pride?
Why do I want to join this nation?
Why can’t I accept others?
Where’s my National Hero?
It gets harder to answer these questions in a world that more often raises walls, protecting the borders instead of the people.
It’s a cold bureaucratic, emotionless process to become, to be held within the arms of our country.
La Mama Courthouse, 349 Drummond St, Carlton
